Artists :: M :: The Mars Volta

When El Paso post-hardcore act At the Drive-In disbanded, vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez would go on to form their own band to make an album, as they put it, "like Pink Floyd's Piper At the Gates of Dawn." What the two (and the rest of their band) did create was a highly experimental brand of progressive rock featuring a wide variety of elements from other genres including punk, latin, and electronic music. The band is well known for Cedric's cryptic lyrics and their tendancy to perform long, technical jams in their studio work as well as at their energetic live shows.
